GINGERBREAD MEN ESCAPADES!

Kiaora everyone! You will never believe it but all our gingerbread men ran away on Friday morning!! We even had some amazing mums come and help bake them (thankyou amazing mums!) but they don't know where they are either.
Mrs Howard went to bake them in the oven. She had them on a tray on tbe bench, and when she opened the oven she turned around and they had gone! Only crumbs were left.
We went looking for them- we found clues but no gingerbread men.

WE'RE GOING ON AN 'A' HUNT!

Today some of us went on a hunt to find letter Aa and things that start with the letter Aa sound with Miss Ellis.  Mrs Turner helped the rest of us with an Aa activity in Room 19 . 

After morning tea we went to a powhiri to welcome all the new people at Arahoe.  That's us! The kapa haka performed andMr Limbrick said a speech.

After lunch some of us finished our letter A activity and the rest of us learnt how to use different Maths centres.  This helps us learn how to work independently as well as how to share, practice maths and solve problems.

Parents: GINGERBREAD MEN ARE GO!

Dear parents and caregivers,
Thanks so much to parents who have offered their help in making gingerbread men. We have about two more batches to make.

We have sent out some email messages but there seems to be a problem in that you may not have received them. We appreciate your patience as we sort this out. We are sending home information letters tomorrow which you will find useful.

Another big thank you is in order to parents who have waited at the end of the day for the children to be dismissed.   This is supporting our New Entrant classroom in learning the routines and learning to return to class at the end of play.

We will send home homework books and book bags from next Monday. Children also stay until 3pm. Again we will ask you to wait outside till your child is dismissed. It will be a lot easier as the children will already be in class and be ready to go.

I f you are in walking distance we recommend coming by fooot to avoid traffic congestion.   Another solution is to park further from school and have a walk and talk back to the car.

KITCHEN CREW NEEDED!

Hi everyone!  
We are starting our Gingerbread Man baking this morning and are looking for helpers for either Tuesday or Thursday from 10.30am.  Mrs Turner will be working with a small group in our kitchen area mixing dough, rolling the dough and cutting it with a cookie cutter.  We will then bake our Gingerbread men and have a yummy treat on Friday!

Week Two Notices

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Welcome to Week Two!
The children have had a great start to the week and are settling into school life.

Here are some notices for the week:

Milk:
Arahoe School is provided with milk from Fonterra. Each morning a milk bar is set up in the Room 20/19 foyer. Please help yourself to milk and sit with your child as they drink it.  The milk cartons are actually recycled and there is a specific folding procedure which we can teach you.  The cartons are sent overseas to be used as roofing tiles!


2pm finish:
This week all the children in Room 20 will finish at 2pm, as is usual for our New Entrants in their first week of school. We ask that you wait outside so that we can dismiss them safely after our goodbye song and end of day routines.


Book Bags:
The children will be going home with their book bags on Wednesday. Please return the children's book bags the next morning in the labelled container.  You can find notices in their book bags as well as any work they have taken home to show you.  You can keep all completed work at home.  Children keep their exercise books at school.


Mrs Turner and Mrs Young:
In Room 20 we have Mrs Turner working along side Miss Ellis for the next few weeks. Once the children have settled into school life Mrs Turner will take a selection of children into Room 19.  This week Mrs Young is also supporting our New Entrants by being in Room 20 for the first part of the day.


Swimming:
Swimming will be starting in week four.  Please name all clothes, especially togs, shirts and shorts as the children will get changed in the dressing room.  We would love 2 helpers to come and support our class during swimming.  If your child is unable to dress or undress independently, the next few weeks would be a great time to practice this skill so they can get the most out of their swimming sessions.

MORE STAR KIDS SHINING BRIGHTLY!

What a great first day Room 20 had! All of us were ready for adventure and having fun exploring Arahoe School.  After lunch we used different activities to spend some time with our new friends.  We got to use playdough, blocks, construction, puzzles, dice and the weigh station. Our teachers were impressed with how we played so nicely together and took care of ourselves, each other and our equipment by sharing and caring. Great work team!
